Mirena® (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is an intrauterine contraceptive that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Made of soft, flexible plastic, it is put in place by your healthcare provider during an office visit. Mirena is birth control that lasts as long as you want, for up to 5 years. Mirena works continuously, without a pill, without a daily hassle. Once Mirena is properly placed, all you have to do is check the threads once a month. Your healthcare provider can show you how. If you have trouble finding the threads, be sure to use a backup form of birth control and call your healthcare provider.
IMPLANON®
IMPLANON® is a small, thin, implantable hormonal contraceptive that is effective for up to three years.IMPLANON® prevents pregnancy in several ways. The most important way is by stopping release of an egg from your ovary. IMPLANON® also thickens the cervical mucus, which acts as a barrier to prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg.
Essure® Hysteroscopic Sterilization
Essure® is a procedure that is completed by using a hysteroscope small permanent "plugs" (microinserts)
are placed into the fallopian tubes from inside the uterus,
using a vaginal approach. This means sterilization can be
performed without an incision on the abdomen and without
general anesthesia. The procedure is very effective and perfomed
either in the office or an outpatient surgery center. Most
patients can return to work the next day.
